Who Am I
Dina Shilleh is a Serbian-Palestinian musician, with a Bachelor and Masters Degree in piano performance (Lawrence University and University of Massachusetts - Amherst). Though Dina’s education was solely in piano performance her work as a musician combines composition, performing, pedagogy, and curation. Her compositions have been performed in the Middle East, Europe and the USA, at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Pierre Boulez Saal, Institute du Monde Arab and Dublin City Hall. She has received awards for her compositions, most notably the Marcel Khalife Composition Award (2021) by the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music and the Young Artist Award by the Palestine In and Out Competition (2015). Her music lives on 4 albums: Another Day (2023), Dancing Circles in the Night (2020), Sudfa (2017), and Letters to Palestine (2016). The Mimesis Ensemble’s album Dancing Circles in the Night, which hosts one of her compositions, has been entered for consideration of a GRAMMY in 2021. Some other notable productions by Shilleh include: Hunger-the musical (2018), bi-yearly creations/performances with composer Robin Burlton since 2019, and the Gradus-العتبة initiative since 2017. She is a long-standing pedagogue in Palestine, who runs the Dina Shilleh Piano Studio, and is the “حین تزور مدینتي” book for teaching piano in the Arabic language.
