Birzeit Heritage Week
About the Festival
"Birzeit Heritage Week" started by the Rozana Association as an initiative and has transferred through out the years, into an annual iconic event attended by more than 30,000 visitors interested in rural traditions and local cultural heritage. The event promotes the productions of various Palestinian artists and craftsmen in addition to a number of rural women and youth societies involved in handicrafts as well as in music, theater, folklore and other artistic expressions. The venue of the Heritage Week is at the periphery of the marginalized countryside in the West Bank, in the rehabilitated historic center of Birzeit. This town and its surroundings have a strong potential for sustainable development initiatives based on the available rural cultural heritage and an array of local resources and capacities. The Heritage Week is part of a development puzzle that the Rozana Association has been pursuing in order to advance Palestinian cultural heritage and identity. It is one of the various cultural events and activities designed to interest people in visiting the town of Birzeit and surrounding villages. Rozana’s projects also seek to identify new functions for old houses, units, and spaces in historic areas and contribute to their visibility and to the recognition of their value. Birzeit Heritage Week is usually organized between the 2nd and 2rd week of July every year.
