About

Ramallah City of Music

On 10 March 2017, the Ramallah Municipality launched the Municipal Theatre, located within the Ramallah Municipal Building, marking a significant cultural milestone for the city and its municipality. The opening reflected the municipality’s pride in its role as a local government institution actively contributing to cultural development and to the creation of an open, enlightened, and pluralistic city, one that offers a permanent platform for dialogue and debate. This initiative aligns with the municipality’s cultural direction over recent years, pursued within a modern and comprehensive vision for urban development and growth. This vision has been shaped through ongoing engagement and dialogue with cultural stakeholders, as well as through learning from regional and international urban experiences that have informed effective cultural interventions in support of these goals.

The Municipal Theatre project dates back to the 1960s, when a space within the current Ramallah Municipal Building was designated as the “Municipal Theatre Hall” although it was not fully developed as a theatre at the time.

The Municipal Theatre has a seating capacity of 264 and is equipped with modern, professional technical systems for sound, lighting, and cinematic presentation. It hosts a wide range of cultural, artistic, and community events throughout the year.
